Hello! It’s been awhile! Remember me? I'm Amy, the beekeeper, photographer, artist and entrepreneur! I’ve decided to dust the cobwebs off of this website once more. Blogging used to be an outlet for me to write about photo sessions, family life, beekeeping and books I designed.
About 2.5 years ago I started teaching art at the elementary school and between that job, which included many hours of lesson planning, and chasing my kids to their sporting activities I quit writing and blogging Instagram was much quicker and easier so I mostly used that platform to share about the bees. The art teacher position has officially been filled by another teacher. (She's awesome btw!) I do miss teaching art and getting messy with the kids I grew attached to, but I think I missed writing and being creative more than I imagined I would. I still substitute teach when I can, but I also have been watercolor painting again, taking photos for fun (and some for profit), as well as starting a business with my daughter, which is what this long winded blog post is is actually about, so I will get to that...
A little back story first though. Charlotte tore her left hip labrum early into track season last year. It was a bummer of a track season and after not really knowing what was wrong with her hip, and trying lots of things we finally got her in for an MRI. The tear required surgery. We waited for her to finish volleyball, and finally her hip was repaired. It's been a long road, and recovery will take a lot of time so she and I talked about what she "could" do instead of focusing on what she couldn't do at the moment. Her senior year is wrapping up, and she only has classes on white days, two or three days a week which leaves her time to fill out scholarship applications and work on building her own business with my help.
Art has always been something Charlotte was naturally good at, and she is a lot like me, we were made to be creative! I live to be a "maker" and so I taught her how to make lip-balm from a simple recipe that I have modified and used for a few years. It's made with beeswax from the honey cappings we render after we harvest honey every year, and a few other natural ingredients that make this balm, the actual balm.com.
It's amazing and so moisturizing for your lips, but it also works on cracked knuckles, dried elbows and knees, and about anywhere you need a little healing balm.
Charlotte has also created her first line of cards and created some simple, punny Valentine's Day themed cards. She will be adding more cards and products as she grows this business. With college just around the corner, this is the perfect little side hustle and creative outlet as her hip is healing up. I am enjoying working with her and we finally got an Etsy store stocked with the balms and cards. We also put some of her cards for sale at Penny's Coffee shop for our local friends!
There are so many more updates I could give, but this is a great start to get into a rhythm of writing and blogging again. I'll share more soon about some products I've designed, and give you an update on our bee friends in the back yard. Thanks for stopping by! Please visit our new Etsy store and take a look around We are adding products weekly! If you are local we are happy to deliver your order, so just order from us!
